As the Pandemic subsides, millions of workers quit

The pandemic has changed how much work means to us.

The pandemic has changed the mindset of myself and several peers; we really value our time now.

A few clients have also mentioned they’ve had staff leave their jobs in search for more money, more flexibility and more happiness. Many are rethinking what work means to them, how they are valued and how they want to spend their time.

The pandemic has provided people with a host of reasons to change course. During my client consultations I’ve found some staff are leaving for better pay, some were in jobs that weren't a good fit but waited out the pandemic before quitting, while others are leaving roles as they fear being forced to return to an unsafe workplace.

One particular client had a senior manager resign and provided an update a few weeks later to say she now has time to do things she could not before, like preparing food for her children (instead of the nanny), erecting a toy castle for them and working on her entrepreneurial goals daily, versus rushing for time on the weekend.

Outsourced and remote work has changed hearts and minds

The large migration to remote work during the pandemic has also had a sincere impact on how people feel about when and where they want to work. Clients have mentioned “Their staff has changed”, especially the way they think about “time and space.” New and existing staff are craving the continuation of flexibility provided during the pandemic - which was previously implausible.

Additionally, the long lock-downs caused a pandemic bubble, allowing for inner reflection to think about what individuals really wanted. Based on our consultations, the overwhelming outcome from that reflection has been a desire to make family a priority.
